Ryan Rhodes Rallies, Stops Jamie Moore In Seven

By Jake Donovan - The list of 2009’s Fight of the Year contenders just grew a little longer.

In a terrific matchup of British super welterweight southpaws, Ryan Rhodes overcame a rough start to once again resurrect his career with a seventh round stoppage of Jamie Moore at the Friday evening in Bolton, Lancashire United Kingdom.

Both fighters weighed 153 ½ lb for their super welterweight elimination bout, which aired live on Sky Sports. [details]

I have to admit, I never cared for him back when his ****e Boy nickname was still relevant. But I agree, it's always nice to see an old dog come back to pull out a fight like this.

The thing I never realized is that he's only 32 years old! I always thought he was much older, like my age.

Watched it in pub with mates, I told them Moore was going to win as he was the better fighter, one of them disagreed as he'd only heard of Rhodes, damn It sucks when I'm wrong. To be fair, Moore should have won though.

I mean, it won't win top honors, but it was easily one of the ten best of 2009. Definitely worth a look or... ten.

That was a really mature performance by rhodes, and its not the way he usually fights. I thought he was going to get outgunned after watching the first 3 rounds, but I noticed that Moore seemed quite gassed at the end of the fourth. Fair play to Moore,he threw a lot of punches in 5,6 and 7 and I wouldnt mind seeing the punchstats as they seemed to be punching almost constantly threw the fight. Brilliant.

Entertaining, yes. British fight of the year though? Hardly. Quigley v Dodson has been in a league of its own for months.
