Daniel Santos, junior middleweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), interrupted the press conference yesterday with participants in the Broadway Boxing event to challenge openly Kermit "The Killer" Cintron.
"People who know me know I'm not well, but you come to Puerto Rico to disrespect people. Were pretty as a ridicule against Antonio Margarito. You said you want to fight me, for I am here now, "Santos said.
Then, Cintron said he is willing to challenge him. But first, Santos must get away from a title defense against Yuri Foreman on November 14 in Las Vegas.
"Daniel, luck in your fight. First win and then we'll talk. The can do in Puerto Rico if you want, "said Cintron, who on Saturday will fight against Julian Ramos ten rounds.
"I do not know what the problem is Daniel. I have always felt great respect for him as champion. This all started when he fought Margarito in Puerto Rico and told him he was in favor of Margarito. I've never been to Daniel fight until then. You heard, wants to fight me and I know the reasons, "he said.
Also, Cintron's promoter, Lou DiBella, said he has been Don King who has neglected to Santos.
"No disrespect to a great champion like Daniel, but the best bet is to call the King to request explanations. It's been over a year since the last time he fought, so let's see the ring first, "he said.
Santos won the scepter in June 2008 when he defeated via knockout to Joachim Alcine.
