I didn't know anything about salita until I was browsing hulu's documentaries. They had one on Salita. It is a very good doc and after watching it, it gives you a greater respect for all boxers trying to make it in a very tough sport. I have a lot of respect for him and wish him well in his fight with khan. This is an even fight for me. check it out at hulu, type in his name and it should come up. I tried to post the link but I have to have 15 posts before I am allowed too.

If Kahn was more notable and not for having a glass chin and if anyone other than hardcore boxing fans knew who Salita was then......maybe the media would play up the issue but they haven't.

Why did Salita lose? Why? Why? Give me an answer almighty wall!

(just a joke don't get mad at me and call me a racist please )
Not much of a joke, but never mind. ***s make the same sort of jokes, since many are not religious.

Actually, the history of that place has always fascinated me, [and multi-millions of others] It was all because the ***ish Temple was built there, and it was the capital of the ***ish state for over 1000 years.

The wall was built by King Herod, when he was reconstructing the Temple on top of the mountain. They lowered it and levelled it out to make a bigger platform (25-30 acres) on which to build a much bigger temple. The wall you see in the picture is actually only a retaining wall, to hold the rubble made by lowering the mountain top. Because the ***s revolted againt the Roman Empire several times, they were eventually taken away overseas as ******. However many still remained behind.

The Romans destroyed the temple and the only thing left of it were the platform and the retaining walls, of which I think there were 4. The Herod period is unmistakable as all the huge stones were bevelled all round, some 20-30 feet long. How the hell were they able to build such things. As much of a puzzle I suppose as the Pyramids in Egypt. I've walked around the place and actually seen 3 of the walls.........HUGE.

The ***s took a couple of hundred years to revive, and they used to go to that wall, to pray. When the Arabs captured Jerusalem from the Byzantine Christian Empire they wouldn't let the ***s approach the wall, and they built a load of shanties and stables etc. on that side [above in the picture] and on the opposite side, where there were 2 gates through which the ***ish tradition said were the Golden Gates through which the ***ish Messiah would arrive in the city, they built a large graveyard there to make sure that the Messiah, who wouldn't approach dead bodies, for some religious ***ish reason, couldn't enter, and thus break the tradition.

Because the site of the special area called the "Holy of Holies" was not absolutely known to the inch, and because they were not allowed to confirm the site, the leaders of the ***s forbade any *** to desecrate the spot, by walking on that holy area. In the old days only the high priest was allowed to go in, on just one day a year, so it was "special". Until 1967 when the ***s or, I suppose Israelis, re-captured Jerusalem, I don't think that they had permission to pray there.

So, it seems that religious ***s are waiting for the Messiah,[which is a purely ***ish concept] who, they say, will rebuild the temple, they are mainly content to pray at the wall and wait for a little "magic". One Arab leader, at the end of the 8th century, built that beautiful dome on the reputed temple site. It was meant to turn the Arabs away from Mecca to Jerusalem, which this leader controlled. In those days the Mecca Arabs and the Eastern desert Arabs were different tribes. It worked for a while, until the Arabs finally woke up to the fact that ***s didn't believe in the Arab religion, so they turned back to Mecca to pray.

The dome strictly speaking, is NOT a mosque. The really holy Arab site on the temple mount, is the Al Aksa mosque, on the southern edge of the platform. This was originally a Byzantine Christan Church, and the Arabs repaired it and added a few domes. Mecca and Medina were mainly populated by ***s, who were forcibly converted to the Arab religion.

Around the late 800's the story spread that Muhammed had flown to paradise [and back?] from the Aksa mosque, on his winged horse. This was because Al Aksa means the further place [mosque?], which, until this story spread, was always taken to mean the furthest mosque from Mecca at that time, which actually, was most likely in Medina, close to Mecca. Muhammed himself, according to historians, was never in Jerusalem the city only being captured [by eastern desert tribes] about 8-10 years after his reputed death. Until then it was a ruled for hundreds of years,by the Byzantine Christian Empire with the their capital in Constantinople -which used to be named Byzantium.

I'm sure I've overstayed my welcome with this long story. Some may find it interesting, but nothing to do with boxing, so it may not even be printed. It's definitely (as Lennox Lewis would say) NOT a quick reply...
