The reason boxing fell apart in Germany was the fact that the GDR (East Germany) and West Germany reunited and the new Goverment did not support boxing at all (still) and all of the work done by East germany slowly fizzled out.

The majority of fighters from the 90 and 00s are fighters raised in the GDR boxing system which worked closely with the soviet and cubans (shared knowledge and cobined trainin camps regular). And all fighters that followed later like a Huck, Culcay, Braehmer, Abraham or even an Abbas they still have been trained by these old former GDR trainers even both Klitschkos and Felix Sturm got trained by Fritz Sdunek. I trained in Germany in whole germany i trained with Ulli Wegner, Otto Ramin and many others and if you wanna find a good trainer in Germany it will always be the old heads brought up in East Germany.

Once this old work/mentality/system fizzled out the talent that was always minimal was not developed in the right way. All of this cobined with the Sauerlands that commited some of the worst roberries which led to fighters not wanting to fight in Germany led to the major TV Platforms not renewing the contracts and then it was a wrap.
