Let's face it, heavyweight boxing is pretty much rock bottom at the moment. I LIKE Byrd, but his style is more made for chin-scratching technical appreciation rather than genuine excitement. Ruiz goes without saying.
For me, there was only really two men who made for exciting fights last year - Vitali and Tyson. Whatever you think of these guys, they're rarely dull, are they?
Yet does Vitali ruin things, gate-wise, by being so damn respectful to his opponents? People don't really want someone to see "He iz very gud opponent, yu know?" people want "I think he's ****, I'm going to smash him to bits". Even after watching Danny Williams painfully get battered over eight one-sided rounds, Vitali's still there. "He haz gud chin, big heart". If he'd have gone "I thought he was a Limey blimp and I slapped him around like a rag doll" it'd have made more headlines, surely?
