The IBF denied sanction of the bout pursuant to IBF Rule 5.E.2, which states: “For the purpose of unification of titles, the preeminent Champions of the World Boxing Association (‘WBA’), the World Boxing Council (‘WBC’), and the World Boxing Organization (‘WBO’) may be designated as ‘elite contenders’ and may be permitted to fight for the unified title.”

“Francis then requested that the committee reconsider its decision, noting that the bout would not be for unification, but the Zuffa title would be contested alongside the IBF title in the same manner that the International Boxing Organization (IBO) title has been contested in bouts involving IBF champions. Peoples explained that the IBF recognizes the IBO and added that like the other sanctioning organizations operating in U.S. professional boxing, it is subject to the same federal regulatory framework governing sanctioning bodies. Sanction remained denied.”
So the IBF "recognises" the IBO but doesn't count it as a "unification". Why couldn't they simply "recognise" the Zuffa trinket?

A nonsensical and contradictory decision and reminder of why we need to get rid of the sanctioning bodies. Imagine stripping the #1 guy in the division - twice - simply because he wanted to be active.

That's why it wouldn't shock me if the "Zuffa title" ends up getting "recognized".

It's no different really, when you think about it.

So Zuffa promised Jai all of the belts and caused him to lose one on the first outing, even though he won. Let's hope Jai's management was smart enough with contract clauses that his Zuffa contract disintegrates,

No, it's not nonsensical and contradictory. They specifically said, regarding the IBO "(it) like the other sanctioning organizations operating in U.S. professional boxing, it is subject to the same federal regulatory framework governing sanctioning bodies." Zuffa is NOT following the federal framework - aka the Ali Act. Simple.

I'm with the IBF on this one. Jai could have said "no" to the Zuffa belt. Had he done that he would still be IBF Champion.

                Good point.

I find that Zuffa already gave out it's "championship" belt after only one fight in the division absolutely ridiculous.

Doesn't this make the IBF look bad? The number 1 rated guy in the division is not your champion anymore but I guess BBC Brickshithouse Glanton can fight for the vacant, he deserves something after a stellar performance in losing to Buff Guy Jai.

They recognise IBO, but not their titles.
Bcs Zuffa is a promoter, not a sanctioning body (can't be both).
