The problem is, Calzaghe never liked weight training. Even when he moved from SMW to LHW, he just chose to lose less weight rather than actually put on 7lbs of lean muscle. As much as I enjoyed his career and would love to see him return, he really had no interest in trying to break Marciano's 49-0 record or unifying at LHW and/or capturing a title in a 3rd or 4th division. I think he was capable of doing the above, including beating Valuev. He just didn't have the desire.
If Joe packed on some muscle, sparred with some heavyweights for a while and really got in shape I wouldn't put it past him to beat Valuev. The same goes for Hopkins. Both would have to play it safe but they could do it.
