Ruiz could have done alot more, he just lost his hunger for success in the ring after winning the unified title but maintained his hunger for tacos and cervesas.
I wonder about Hughie. He's a good boxer but he's lacked that bit extra when needed against the experienced, world level fighters he lost to fairly comfortably. Mainly a bit of strength and bit more mustard on his punches, as well as stamina. He's defensively sound.
But even when he was fighting regularly he was beset by pretty major health concerns. Boxers are rarely 100% and only Hughie himself will probably know but I don't think this guy has ever been right in nearly all of his fights.
I can't see Ruiz picking him. If Hughie is healthy he'd be a catastrophic pick from Zuffa. He could box circles around Ruiz and nobody thinks Hughie is too much cop at this time.

Nobody expected Andy to do what he did. A lot more? He gave Eddy his most shocking upset as a late replacement for an overweight drug abuser. Just the same, he made history as the first heavyweight champion of Mexican decent, AJ gets a mention. I don't think Andy will ever go hungry or thirsty again, he has a legacy.

The thing about Hughie is, he likes to bleed all over his opponents. He's forced into a defensive posture to mitigate the flow.
