Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington throw hands for a second time on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, two and a half years on from their modern British boxing classic. In their first bout, Wood put his WBA featherweight championship on the line against Warrington in Sheffield and came-from-behind to force a seventh-round knockout, despite trailing on the cards by a four-point margin, according to two of the judges.

Wood and Warrington have long disagreed about the stoppage as, after returning to his corner on shaky legs, the referee waved the fight off. Warrington has been insistent that he could have recovered to fight sufficiently in the eighth and onward.
In fact, Boxing Social spoke to Warrington ahead of the fight, who told us that he’s had time to reflect on his mistakes. “There were moments it felt easy. Pushing him against the ropes, working on the inside,” he told us. “Maybe I let him go, when I could have stayed working. Times he got me in the clinch. Things I could have done better, and he could say the same.”
Now, Wood can show the ref was right all along with a repeat performance while Warrington has the chance to score revenge atop the Matchroom Boxing show.

Wood vs Warrington 2 our prediction
Wood comes into the fight with arguably slighter better form, but only a fool would write off Warrington. When we spoke to the former, it’s clear he’s learned from his mistakes and is keen to put on a show. “When I need to switch it on, go to certain places in my mind, I’ll use that,” he told us. “I’ve got plenty of energy going into this fight. I don’t want to let emotions fully get into this fight.”
Though both are inconsistent of late, and arguably at the tail-ends of their respective careers, they are motivated enough to rise under what could be the last prominent spotlight before retirement. And considering Wood’s ninth-round stoppage loss to Anthony Cacace, there are increasing signs his physical abilities are waning at a more concerning curve than Warrington, who rebounded from a lopsided decision defeat to Cacace to out-point Asad Asif Khan in his last appearance. Signs, this time, point to revenge for Warrington but we all know what Wood is capable of on his day.y778ouip
