Comments Thread For: Xander Zayas invites Josh Kelly to fight in Puerto Rico or New York

Xander Zayas just won a second world title in front of his Puerto Rican faithful. He?d like to do the same for a possible unification bout with Josh Kelly.

Kelly's home advantage was definitely a factor in him getting the decision. He isn't going to give that up to fight Zayas on his home ground. It'll be a made to measure defence in the UK next.

To be honest its not Zayas fault that the top 154lbs dont want to fight each other. Dont get me wrong im not saying Zayas would beat them or anything like that but Ortiz had a chance to fight Zayas and opted to fight Madrimov instead who was coming off a loss to Crawford and was having known health problems with severe bronchitis which forced him to withdraw from the previous Bohachuk fight. Ortiz is now slated to be in talks with Boots so both of those guys are out on the sidelines. Fundora is holding himself up with an injury preparing for once upon a time Thurman.

Zayas is 23 right now and isnt even in his prime. Josh kelly is the only real open guy right now. not much happening at 154lbs who else is there Callum Walsh maybe?

Boots and Ortiz haven't signed anything. Zayas could easily call out both if they don't make their fight. He could say he wants to fight Fundora if he wins. Tell you what, if by some miracle Thurman wins I have no doubt Zayas will call him out. Age has nothing to do with it - once you are a champion you should be open to fighting all contenders and be calling them out, not looking for the weakest champion or weakest mandatory, as we see all too often.

Given how difficult these prima donna Americans are to deal with it seems sensible to me. Get on with people who are easy to deal with and want to fight. When all the court cases and promoter psychodrama are over the 'interim' boys might be ready to have a fight by the end of 2026.

Zayas will never get Kelly to NYC or PR. Kelly's as safe as baby's milk in the UK; the UK judges will fill out the scores at the weigh in. I don't doubt Zayas should fight overseas as no one will pay a cent to see the bike riding running rabbit Kelly fight in the US. Only crazed but loyal drunk as locals will pay to see this guy Kelly.

Oscar and Eddie have repeatedly said they are focused on making the Boots vs Ortiz fight. Boots and Ortiz have repeatedly said they are focused on making that fight. Zayas has called out Fundora on plenty of occasions like after the Slawa Spomer last Febuary he called him out and it was crickets. Plus if you watch the post fight interview he didnt just call out Kelly he had called out the entire devision and called out Ortiz and Boots by name as well as Kelly.

Its sad that the only guy making moves is this 23 year old kid. Ortiz Jr is 27 years old and his biggest fight is a sick Bronchitis Madrimov and is still chasing a belt. He stayed at 147lbs and didnt do anything of note. He was called out and Ocar didnt want that fight in PR. Yes he's talented but what does that do for you if you dont make anymoves. Boots has been doing a whole lot of nothing as well, his biggest fight is to date is Stanionis while complaning no one wants to fight him. People want to hate on this 23 year old kid but hes the only one wanting to fight and actually taking belts.

If he beats Fundora I'll give him all the credit in the world - and I do give him some credit for beating Baraou

I would too but anyone that is scheduled to fight Thurman will be in limbo for at least a year it seems to be a thurman curse. Either Thurman's hurt or his opponent gets hurt and the fight is postponed for a year.
