What’s with all the hype over smith beating Matias . Paro already beat Matias in Matias back yard .

If you listened to the American commentary you'd have thought they captured Dalton in a crack house and put pair of gloves on him.

Not that he was a former Junior ABA, Senior ABA champ, an English, British, Commonwealth, European and WBC Silver champion.

In truth, you are correct Dalton Smith is better at boxing than Matias but the perception of ANY British fighter going stateside is that they might be s.hit - from the American media.

A British fight fan or an fight fan generally will be able to tell a Michael Jennings from a Dalton Smith.

American broadcasters never seem to bother. They'll just site levels or something and assume the guy will fail because plenty have. But anyone with eyes will tell you the guys that could or should win.

Dalton was underdog with the bookies but I would have been surprised personally if he lost to Matias.

Honeyghan over Curry for me - Curry was viewed much the same as Crawford at welterweight - far more impressive than say Brook over Porter

That's the big one isn't it? Before my time though but I have watched it.

That Brook over Porter is a good one though. Pretty 50/50 going in.

Should have been DQ'd for excessive holding
He also benefited by fighting a guy Stevie Wonder could find.
Only Yori Boy Campos was an easier target

That's what makes the Honeyghan win so impressive - I don't know what the odds were but I'd think that Honeghan was at least a +750 underdog, even up to a +1200 - that's how highlt regarded Donald Curry was at the time. For the miracle to happen I think Curry had to seriously over-estimated and under-prepared for Honeghan who himself fought at the absolute apex of his abilities that night. I saw it on tv but wasn't so much of a fan back then to realise what Honeghan pulled off.

Brook neutralised Porter that evening but actually everyone knew he was a tremendous boxer, he'd just never really had the chance to prove it before as he was somewhat avoided at that stage.

Ismael Laguna is from Panama...maybe he had many fans in Puerto Rico but his home soil is Panama, a different country. He only fought one other bout in Puerto Rico.
