Yeah, and most people call in sick and get statutory sick pay. Boxers, being self-employed, get none of that and actually lose money from having to still pay their team.
But his training would be compromised. Some of the reactions to pulling out with injury/illness are just plain ******ed. Sorry.
well depends, ive read stories from boxers who have picked up an illness during camp but were actually fine after some rest as most of their training was done anyway and they put in a great performance in the ring, these guys are usually in great nick and recover from colds and flus very quickly, 1 week type of thing and back to normal very quickly and raring to go

what about paro and his time and cash as well?
worst thing paddy could have made the trip, prob be recovered by fight time and in good form, if he wins great if he loses its not the end of the world both get paid anyway, he might lose the fight anyway
this is flu season and if i was due to fight in january i would almost be expecting to pick up a flu in the northern hemisphere anyway, its over in aussie land, flu jab maybe?

My point is that the incentives don't really line up for boxers like Donovan to pull out on a whim. He's literally invested into this training camp and now won't get paid. He won't have made this decision lightly.
