What a lot of people know as "stacking" in this forum and what Inoue was actually doing are two separate things. Most people here regard "stacking" as creating layers of alternating tape and gauze, especially if it's done over the knuckles, something common in sports such as Muay Thai. That, however, is not what Inoue was doing. Inoue was applying tape to skin, and he was doing so well below his fist, along his wrist. People do this to create extra support. Sometimes they'll apply the tape to the skin to act as an anchor for the gauze. Inoue was not applying alternating layers of tape and gauze, and he definitely wasn't making a Muay Thai wrap, with the tape over his knuckles.
In Nevada, you can't have any tape on the skin, but if Inoue had been fighting in California, it would not have been an issue because California allows tape on skin. All boxers have the same amount of tape and gauze they can use, so squandering your resources on alternating layers of gauze and tape would be an absolute waste and make for a terrible hand wrap.Comment
