The reason Eubank & Benn got the money they got is British Boxing fans sold out a 67,000 seat stadium. As great as the Boots vs Vergil is supposed to be, they're going to have to make the fight profitable for both DAZN and Matchroom. It's obvious that team Ortiz and Golden Boy already know what the outcome of this fight is going to be, so why isn't Vergil sitting tight to face Fundura? They're going to face the same roadblocks with the PBC. Turki paid Vergil just a small fraction compared to what they're asking for now. Vergil can go punch air, and never become a champion.Last edited by PoiPounder; 12-30-2025, 01:05 PM.Comment

This fight is all wrong from a promoter;s point of view. Leaving aside Turki money, you don't put 2 potential superstars into a 50/50 fight when they are 28/29 years old - whoever gets defeated they will need to be nursed back to contention and lose much of their lustre - that's why GBP and Matchroom want a big fee now from DAZN who they are presumably contracted to.
1/ someone in DAZN thinks this fight won't do the numbers that the fighter's handlers want.
2/ Their careers have been mis-handled to an extent . Ennis should have signed with PBC instead of being on the periphery looking in - then he'd likely have had more momentum at 147. He belatedly got Stanionis when Norman ducked him. But he has also fought too many no-name fighters. Way too many.
Part of Ortiz's issue was his illness but aside from that you don't put someone in with Bohachuk AND Madrimov without a belt being on the line.
These guys should have won more belts by now and they should also be doing more media - the promoters have to promote. Look how K2 promotions got Golovkin to a high level - and he essentially was of zero interest to the casual US fan until he made it impossible for them to ignore him.Comment

"In recent times Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh has been involved in funding these so-called mega fights, but neither Riyadh Season or The Ring have been interested in the bout between Ortiz and Ennis."
What? Does this guy even follow boxing? Saudi offered them the fight 2 years ago now and it was puss in boots who turned it downComment
