I cannot help but feel this excellent matchup is flying a little under the radar. Moreno is a divisional great, a multiple-time champion with quite a few Top 10 wins scattered across his resume. Though he’s also plagued by inconsistency and strange stylistic choices, Moreno is still just 31 years of age and has proven to have plenty left in the tank in his recent wins over Amir Albazi and Steve Erceg.
Taira, meanwhile, is competing with Joshua Van for status as the best young Flyweight standout. At 25 years of age, Taira is already a masterful grappler with a remarkable 17-1 professional record. He’s only one fight removed from his first loss — a five-round war opposite former title challenger, Brandon Royval — and looked better than ever in that six-minute domination of Park Hyun-sung (see that here). He’s once again on the verge of a title shot, but “Assassin Baby” is as tough as test as they come.
