Johnny Nelson has the dubious distinction of being more entertaining as a presenter than he was as a boxer imo.
He comes across as being very relaxed, charming & charismatic when he's onscreen, he's the Gary Lineker of boxing punditry.
Sometimes it's hard to tell whether the opinions he expresses are his or just the narrative being pushed by the media, but I guess that's his job.
He's not the best at predicting or analysing a fight, but he's got the personality to sell boxing to the casuals, which is a worthwhile function.
With his in ring style & personality I'm surprised he hasn't appeared on strictly yet...
Nelson was a terrible fighter. Was never a legit world champion and Cruiserweight wasn’t even thought of as a serious division when he held the unrecognised WBO title.
A complete fraud, was European level at best, and you hear him saying absurd things like he would have beaten Usyk. He wouldn’t have won a single second of the fight. Guys like Bellew, Okolie, Billam-Smith etc would have all beaten Nelson comfortably too. The most overrated career in Britain because of the narrative Sky have driven for years. He was terrible. If you don’t believe go and watch for yourself.
