Manny Pacquiao is rounding out his training in the Philippines at Gerry Peñalosa’s Gym in Mandaluyong City. Today the pound-for-pound king did eleven rounds on the mitts with trainer Freddie Roach. Read on for the latest from Camp Pacquiao!
“Manny is hitting so hard right now in camp… so fluently that with the way he’s punching we’re going to knock (Cotto) out.” Freddie Roach said from Manny Pacquiao’s training camp earlier today in the Philippines. “His right hook is so strong right now I’m experiencing a lot of pain in my arm from doing pad work.”
Roach and Pacquiao are at the Gerry Peñalosa Boxing Gym in Mandaluyong City, Philippines where the light welterweight world champion is currently concluding the portion of camp being held in his home country. Team Pacquiao is set to leave for Los Angeles on Oct. 24 to wrap up training camp at Roach’s famed Wild Card gym. Several members of Pacquiao’s camp spoke to local media on Monday and by all accounts Pacquiao is hitting his stride in training.
“His speed and quickness are amazing,” commented unbeaten junior middleweight sparring partner Shawn Porter. “Those are elements I use in my game so I know how effective they will be in his match.”
Having an excellent vantage point to watch Pacquiao at work, former world champion Gerry Peñalosa was pleased with what he saw sitting in on the training session. Peñalosa feels Pacquiao will stop Miguel Cotto when the two clash on November 14 in Las Vegas.
“I am every bit confident that the Pacman will devour Miguel Cotto… Manny might be the smaller guy but he was so fast,” Peñalosa commented in his article on the coveted Filipino website Philboxing.com. “Manny looks very focused and determined.”
Pacquiao is rumored to be around the 149 pound mark with just over four weeks to go until fight night. Being able to eat five times a day has the champ looking strong and fierce and he is on pace to make the 145 pound limit with ease. Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza has Pacquiao eating a lot of fish which has increased his protein intake.
“I feel good.” Pacquiao commented Monday. With only four days remaining until he leaves for America, it’s all systems go in Camp Pacquiao.
