Kenny Bayless, one of the best referees in the business today, has been named the in-ring official for the November 14 mega-fight between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto, reports GMA News.
Bayless was the referee for Pacquiao's knockout of Ricky Hatton in May, and Pacquiao is 3-0 in fights that Bayless referees. It's likely irrelevant, unless you believe in voodoo or the like, but it's a neat little side note. Bayless was also the referee for Cotto's lone career loss against Antonio Margarito in July 2008.
The three ringside judges have also been appointed and named by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Dave Moretti, Duane Ford and Adalaide Byrd will score the fight from ringside. Of the three, Adalaide Byrd has surely taken the most flak in recent years, but all three are experienced, big fight judges.
Bayless would have been pick number one from me, with Jay Nady and Tony Weeks the only other referees that work Vegas I would have considered worthy of this spot. Nevada picked a good man for this hugely important fight.
