If you have watched him in the last year you can see how far he has come. He is at the point of being a legit threat to anyone at 154. Two years ago I would have laughed at the suggestion, but Top Rank has done something right with him by bringing him along slowly. He is maturing into a very good fighter.
    Vanes is good to go.

Just look at the last 6 fighters the have fought and what those fighters have done before and after those respective bouts and then you tell me who has a better resume!!!
I don't think we need to check boxrec. We watch boxing, and we have seen their fights.

I trust my eyes...and I would respectfully remind you not to be a BoxRec Hero.

Martinez is just on a higher level than Vanes. I understand that Vanes is your countryman, and I commend you for your Armenian Pride. But VM isn't ready for Maravilla....and he may never be.

          Dean,

I still can't believe that Paul Williams' name left Vanes' mouth. P-Dub has been fighting tough, experienced guys. Vanes, um, has not.

Not only would Punisher take Martirosyan's soul, but I would pick several welterweights to come UP and spank VM like a child.

Let's please wait until Vanes beats someone with a pulse.

Well I was not considering Williams as I don't think we will see Williams fighting at Super Welter or Welter for that matter again. Williams wants big fish and there are not any at 154 for him.

Other than Williams I think Vanes can give anyone at 154 a good go right now. Sure he has not fought top competition, but neither has Martinez. I have seen a kid slowly develop into a man and he has skills on top of it. Martinez is a southpaw who is good on his feet, fast with good pop. Vanes is a guy who is tall, rangy, quick also with a dynamite right hand. They mix up will together.

I just feel Martinez is overrated and Vanes is underrated and a fight between them is a natural one. Vanes also seems to have a ton of confidence and that alone can do great things. It is simply time for Vanes to step up. That is what he is trying to do here and I tip my hat to the guy.

Ok then, have you seen Vanes beat up Billy Lyell with one hand pretty much unused, the same Billy Lyell that beat up John Duddy and is ranked highly by all the sanctioning bodies... Have you seen how Vanes schooled Angel Hernandez, the same Angel Hernandez that had beat up a previously beat up another young prospect... or did you see him get rid of andrey tsurkan in 6 rounds, something alfredo angulo couldnt do until the 10th.should i go on or do you get the picture...
what we've seen from Sergio is one fight vs Bunema and another vs Cintron, the rest of his fights were fought in his native Argentina against absolute nobody's, i mean we all know how scoring goes for hometown boys in those countries.
Other than Cintron, i dont see how you can speak so highly about Martinez's resume. Boxrec is a site that balances everythign out, its factual and all you gotta do is look at records, thats the only objective way to judge a fighter and his opponents

Frst of all, take off your caps lock. And calm down.

Berto has fought Urango, Collazo, Forbes and has made a fight with Shane Mosley.
Would you please remind me of the top-level comp that Vanes has faced?

Please don't put too much weight in gymwork. The sport is rife with Gym Heroes.
