Comments Thread For: The Riyadh Season report card two years after the arrival of Turki Alalshikh

I’m in total agreementBecause of the huge money, boxers now wait on Turki in hope of securing a huge match during Riyadh Season. Boxing barely exists outside of Riyadh Season. Remember when the sport was weekly? It seems like months go by without any decent fights. This has been the worst year for boxing in my lifetime, and I'm old.
They all waiting for the money bag , same as chasing Canelo for a payComment

There are less fights because there are less platforms so therefore less dates available for fights. I don't like it because inactivity is bad for boxers and fans. Boxing can't build stars if people never see them. Right now they are behind paywalls and fighting so infrequently that people ( prospective new fans ) forget who they are and why they should care. If Turki really wanted to help boxing he'd start up another broadcast or two.
Another thing , the atmosphere at the fights in Saudi is dismal. It makes boxing look like it's all but dead when its biggest stars and biggest fights are in half empty buildings with zero fan interest shown. There has got to be a way to fix that, the optics are terrible.Last edited by CPNUTKnockoutFreshMart; 10-30-2025, 03:45 PM.Comment

It seems to me that the better question (sorry if this has been posed) is this - what would be the report card of boxing right now if Saudi had not been involved in the past 2 years? I struggle to see most of these fights being made.👍 1Comment
