Comments Thread For: Don?t punish Joseph Parker for losing ? in fact, reward him

Joseph Parker took a chance rather than awaiting his mandatory shot at Oleksandr Usyk. Eric Raskin argues that Parker's competitive TKO loss to Fabio Wardley shouldn't send him all the way to the back of the line.

The right thing to do is the scenario you conveniently left out...

    REMATCH!!!

The Mighty Oilskin deserves to punch his ticket for another big fight and it wouldn't come any bigger than running it back with Fabio!

Though indeed Dubois, Kabayel or even YungMo would be a fun watch.

Don't make me bust out the tinfoil hat and rant about Brit hype for Fabio, fixed refs and how if Parker were a brit they'd be planning the rematch as soon as he was healed enough to put headgear on and start sparring...

      ...cos you know i will!

When I first heard about Joe's weight before the fight, I thought he had muscled up, but when I saw the photos I thought 'out of condition, big belly and man boobs'. I still don't understand why. But Joe said himself the better man won and Fabio has Oleksandr lined up. They will sell out Wembley.

Fabios lack of an amateur career and road to the title probably saved a lot of damage so his punch resistance is still high.

This fight was practically a re-run of the splattering Joe took from Big Jugs and he was never the same afterwards.

Joyce punch resistance was gone after Parker. Perhaps Fabio's is too. He's gonna find out with the next level now that hes bossed The Mighty Oilskin.

the other belt orgs will not allow their mandatories to be pushed aside by Parker even if he defeats another contender - unless that contender is the mandatory for the IBF, WBA or WBC

Parker's best bet is to keep active and wait for Usyk to retire and be well positioned when he does. Or hope Wardley beats Usyk somehow and then have the rematch

Did you just confess that Joe was beaten fairly? I need a drink.

Fish Eyes has guaranteed Parker a rematch after Usyk, so it's on (unless better offers come up on both accounts). Oleksandr has talked about another two years, no longer another two fights and honestly, if I was that far ahead of potential opponents and hot property, I'd do 3 more years. Hell, I'd take a walking frame in against Anthony Joshua or Daniel Dubois for a trilogy. Whilst drinking a can of lager and eating a hotdog.

Oh he was beaten up by Fabio fairly bloody good, but was the resulting decision fair and beyond doubt ?

                  I can't definitively say.

No one can, because we all, including Wardley, were denied the privilege of seeing what might have happened next.

Parker wasn't given the opportunity to go out on his shield. Wardley wasnt given the opportunity to knock Parker out and the world will always be wondering what if...

Speculate all we like. Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has one but unless its mine, they all stink!

There's only one fair and just way to rectify the decision...IMMEDIATE REMATCH.

Given the nature of the fight, no boxing fan would not want to see that. Even promoters and powerbrokers flashing dollars and pound signs in their eyes couldnt deny a rerun would be as spectacular. Moreso than seeing Usyk vs anyone, including Fabio.

I'd be fairly certain even the great man Usyk himself would rather see it run back and fight the legit winner as opposed to the guy who got gifted the decision by a ref with form in the game...

If there was more like Parker willing to take these obviously really dangerous fights the we'd be in a much better place .Can you ever imagine Joshua taking such a dangerous contest while waiting for a guaranteed title shot ! ..never . Joe fought a great fight but couldn't really budge Wardley who is proving a solid unit with lights out power. It will take a top form Usyk to dismantle this guy and the way he hits to the body will bring those odds down ! Joe took the risk and now has to keep proving himself which he is fully capable of .If Uysk doesn't take it for any reason then bring on the rematch ...great fight !
