Unfair advantage. A beard gets in an opponents eyes. The hair gets in there mouth. It makes it too hard to see cuts.

    There are lots of reasons.

it seems a ****** rule, a beard would have to be very long to get in their mouth or eyes, maybe james toney could grow one and blind ruiz with it

I know the main reason is because they say it cushions the impact of a punch.

You're not allowed to have a beard because beards attract bears...and we wouldnt want bears in the ring now would we?

              Give the man a cigar.

And it's true, too. It doesn't seem like it would make much difference, and I suppose in reality, it's a pretty small difference in most cases, but it can give an unfair advantage by helping absorb some of the energy from a punch. If you've ever seen guys with really thick, wooly beards, you can understand why they wouldn't be allowed.

The hitman is on the money with that reply.

A beard is not going to help cushion a blow. If you get tagged a bunch of whiskers is not going to be the difference in whether or not you end up laying on the canvas.........Rockin'

ya. I agree that they don't soften the blow, but if you have a really big beard, like Santa Clause style that could help you hide your chin.
