Comments Thread For: Money doesn't matter: Bakhram Murtazaliev, Josh Kelly need to fight

The ongoing saga of getting Bakhram Murtazaliev back in the ring is depriving the IBF 154lbs champion of his prime and causing much consternation among his handlers and those of planned challenger, England?s Josh Kelly.

Kathy Duva is likely at fault here - she has zero leverage - so she should forgo any cut she's hoping to make and pass that money to Kelly who I'd have as a 10/1 underdog - so he needs some decent compensation for what could be a career ending beating

This is where the Old Guard structure of boxing is shown to be most flawed. It shouldn't be this difficult to get one of the top guys in the sport's hottest division into the ring.

The main problem is noone is interested in the fight so the "promoters" can't find anyone to foot the bill. The proposed split isn't particularly unfair as Kelly doesn't deserve a title shot but him and Booth almost certainly overestimates his worth.

I can see where they’re coming from with Kelly wanting more money, he’s not getting any younger and I think they’re probably aware of his ceiling. Really he needs a cash out fight like against Benn etc.

Shame a legit world champion is struggling to find a challenger.

Easy SOLOUTION Remove the 10 Pound Rehydration Clause from the IBF and more will be willing to fight for it.

              Only 15% is crazy.
Cruz (also a challenger) got 35% for 135 IBF(!).

Purse bid needs to be brought into the reality of the world we live in.

If the total purse bid is below a certain number it means the champion isn't a big draw and the split should be closer to even while a higher bid might allow the split lean toward the champion.

Of course purses should remain negotiable but don't let them continue to be the excuse for avoidance and for GOD SAKE enforce a cohesive, consensus list of mandatory fighters. Sanctioning bodies can still allow for exceptions but make them 100% TRANSPARENT or whimper into the sunset as the business of boxing moves on.

Changing weight rules is an invitation to blood doping and weight bullies and does nothing to address the ridiculously nonproductive mandatory system.

Kelly should just take the fight and prove himself. Else just retire
