American boxing press takes a knee: No longer looking for the Great White

American boxing press has stopped looking for a white champ. Yes, they have. They have realized boxing is a sport that is practiced in urban areas by marginalized community members, mainly blacks and hispanics. Long gone are their hopes for their white champ, so they are taking a page out of the Hatton Manual of BS Hype-Up and will tell you over and over again how Paul Williams is the most feared boxer in the planet, and how the heir to the Mayweather Crown are 1) Andre Dirrell, 2) Ward, 3) Chad Dawson. Yes, believe it. They will even rate Mosley higher than Cotto in the P4P rankings.

Lack of honesty list:
1) German judges and referees.
2) Texan judges.
3) TIE Hatton fans and the American boxing press

Yes. It takes a 13 year old to know that the American press is racist, but when they can´t find a champ of their color, will turn into nationalism.

All the while, a guy like Cotto, who has fought almost all the major players at Welterweight, has to live with being rated #2 at WW because they are in love with Mayweather.

Oh, and Carlos Quintana doesn´t exist. Because a 12 round ownage/boxing lesson is nothing compared to a 1st round KO.

I guess if Cotto beats Pac, The Ring mag will say ¨Manny losses, Mayweather reclaims P4P #1 status¨ and publishes something like:

Mayweather is a great fighter, but now he is fighting at WW, has just returned from retirement, and fought a blown up lightweight. That doesn´t deserve a high ranking. But yes, he is American.

Williams was impressive against Winky. But he is not the most feared fighter or avoided fighter or whatever. Hell, I´ve listened to people talking about a fight between power punchers regarding his upcoming fight with Pavlik. Williams is a swarmer. Pavlik is a power punches a la Trinidad.

It sickens me to see how many fighters get a free ride because of their nationality/race/ethnicity. Chavez Jr being the most obvious example. And the American boxing press hypes up any American fighter with decent boxing skills like he´s the second coming of Ray Leonard.

No one gets a free ride because of their nationality because this is an international sport. Being American only gets you so far. Being British only gets you so far. Being German only gets you so far. Being black, hispanic, white, asian, etc. only gets you so far.

Eventually you'll get put up against competition and you'll either show your meddle or disappear. Race, nationality, popularity...they don't make ATGs. It's up to the boxer.

Park Si-Hun has a Olympic Gold Medal (you know, International Good Will not for money competition) that proves I am right and you are wrong. Park Si-Hun has a Gold Medal because of his nationality. Juan Díaz got a decision because he fought Paulie in Texas. Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. has a career because Mexicans love his father. Ricky Hatton is millionaire because the British support their fighters... and at home they allow him to rabbit punch,grapple,push,grab and punch his opponents to death. Abraham won his first fight against Miranda because he was in Germany; nowhere else would they allow a fighter to continue in the kind of condition Abraham was.

MAYBE you´ll eventually get put against real competition. And then, MAYBE, the other guy will have a fair shake. Probably, he´ll need to KO you to earn his win. Malignaggi knew it, he said it, and it happened. Seems like YOU live in a Hatton Wonderland.
