Comments Thread For: Roy Jones Jnr likes Terence Crawford's chances to beat Canelo Alvarez

Roy Jones Jnr is one of the few boxers who understands what goes into jumping two weights classes to beat a champion. He thinks Terence Crawford may have what it takes to do the same against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

It goes either of two ways, Canelo on points, but not as easily as against Jermell, or Crawford actually out points him in a razor thin decision.

If Bud pulls it off, it won't be a landslide like Floyd did, or 8-4 or 9-3 scenario as we saw when Bivol comfortably beat Canelo.

Canelo is more powerful, great chin, body puncher of note, hits arms hard, but throws one or two punches at a time, fights in spurts. He has fast hand speed, underrated, but Crawford has much better foot work, and probably slightly higher boxing IQ.

I like canelos relaxed confidence in winning this fight, he doesn't even think it will be difficult, he never fights anxious, in order for Crawford to win he will have to stop canelo, it will never happen, Crawford will have some good rounds but will get stopped late, ref stops the beating.

Black guys can't deal with the fallout of coming out and saying it might be a bridge too far for Crawford, which I'm sure a lot of them are thinking.

I dont favour Crawford but I give him much more of a chance than most seem to. Honestly I think its a 60/40 fight. Bud isnt giving up height and reach and hes probably the more skilled fighter and seemingly less washed than Canelo even though they are both past their best.

This fight will be closer than people think. Canelo's punch isn't the issue at all. It's whether Crawford can implement his game plan and stick to it the whole fight. If Crawford can crack Canelo hard and get his respect then the fight will be different. Same goes for Canelo. If he cracks Crawford hard and gets his respect early then both fighters will have to adjust their game plans. Nobody knows until fight day.
