Baraou has been fighting in semi-obscurity in Europe but was a very live dog. Good for him, he has the heart of a lion.

Baraou beat the crap out of Tellez with his all-action style and intelligent pressure. He is a player. He has power and volume. He is going to be a problem for some at 168. Nice addition to the division!

He's been very inactive due to not being able to cash in his high ABC ranking. This is what we love to see: boxers showing up at their best when their time finally comes. Baraou put in a workmanlike performance and took the play away from Tellez very early. He wasn't phased by the athleticism gap and stayed defensively responsible, while gradually grinding Tellez down. This was a man vs. boy tonight.

H e l l of a fight. Baraou was letting them hands go, especially in the enging minute & seconds of the rounds leaving that last impression on the judges. That knocksown sealed the deal.

At 154lbs he's definitely a force to be dealt with. Let's see who wants to step up.

I was at the fights last night. It was freezing in the ballroom where it was held. Haha Yoenis ran up against more than he could handle. Baraou didn’t fly all the way from Germany to come back empty handed. Gotta give it to him. There was something very throwback about him. Can’t put my finger on it but he reminded me of an old-school fighter, maybe just in general. He fought a beautiful fight against a worthy Tellez. I wasn’t writing down scores, but in my head I had him up by a couple of rounds going into the 12th. The knockdown easily sealed the deal. I was impressed. That one loss Abass has on his record was a split-decision versus a much moe experienced opponent. It appears he was moved up too quickly. He looks ready now. I’d say the same thing might’ve happened with Tellez yesterday. His handlers thought he was ready to step up, but Baraou was just a little too much for him. I’d say, like his opponent, he can step up his game and become better, but now his ultimate potential is obviously in question. He has heart; we all saw that. Let’s see how he responds after this first loss.

Team Tellez probably assumed they had the upper hand because of Baraou's 14 months of inactivity. But it proved not to affect the outcome. Baraou reminded me a bit of Charles Conwell, but the difference is that Conwell faded vs. Perez whereas Baraou showed better endurance/stamina vs. Tellez.

Yeah, Abass impressed me. There was an ebb and flow to his game that was very veteran-like. There was a moment somewhere around the midpoint where it looked like they were both starting to lose stamina, but he really turned it up when it counted. At the start of the twelfth both fighters came storming out, but it looked like it was Tellez who was reacting to Baraou‘s onslaught. He answered the call, though, and they wrapped up a very entertaining battle in nice fashion. I felt my Cuban boy start to wither just before the knockdown. You just knew it was coming. I’m happy he finished the war on his feet. That loss might mean more than a great number of victories, if he and his team use it correctly. As I mentioned, Abass himself took his first L when he stepped up. I’m hoping Yoenis does just as well moving forward. Boxing is a very tough sport. They play for keeps.

Thats interesting because watching him last night a name from the past kept popping in my head over and over. Terrance Alli. No idea why. So I watched a you tube of Alli and yeah sure enough very similar, And it turns out he's from Africa which I didnt even know.

check out the fight with vs Harry Arroyo for a great comparison (even though he loses)

This was a hellava fight and both fighters held their own, but Abass conditioning made the deference and he wasn’t to be denied. The Cuban had become a bit arrogant so now that he got humiliated and humbled he may become a better fighter from this point, they both need a few months off after that!
