Super Six Starts Slowly: A Ringside Report and Analysis

A weekend in Nottingham gave me an opportunity to take in the Carl Froch versus Andre Dirrell Super Six contest, as well as the UK Bodybuilding finals, which took place over the course of Saturday and Sunday. The relaxed pace of Sunday’s bodybuilding contest also gave me plenty of time to mull over the split-decision win handed to Carl Froch the previous night. [details]

I agree, it was a bad start - for the Brits...

IMO I could have written a similar piece of article - with the difference that the Super 6 kicked off very well in Germany...and IMO also in the US as Direll was a morally winner.

Problem for you guys in the UK was the dirty anthics of Froch, the negativity of Direll and the shocker how AA is going to put Froch away next summer...plus the US adapted time slot which took away a lot, I guess...

Next time you won't even have the benefit of a Froch-win as Kessler is going to school him in Denmark...

I thought Dirrell beat Froch by a point, but I agree with the author it wasn't the robbery of the century. As far as this tournament, I think after Kessler beats Ward they should invite Bute and make it a four-man tournament: Abraham, Bute, Kessler and Froch.

Thanks for the comments guys. I thought that both men performed badly but Froch squeaked through to win the fight. There were two rounds in it at best. The -1 played its part and I would not argue too much with you if you gave it to Dirrell by a similar margin. It was one of those nights.

Be fair on Froch, for all the faults he has showed the fights with Pascal and Taylor were entertaining. Dirrell is likely to feature in his fair share of stinkers during his career. The whole point of this tourney is to generate excitement. Dirrell has no history of this, Froch does.

As for the overall winner. Kessler is the one for me. He has the beating of all these guys.

A four-man tournament? Don't you think Ward, Taylor and Dirrell have contracts with Showtime?

dirrell got robbed... yeah, it was a stinker of a fight and dirrell ran and held, but he made froch look like an amatuer.

the AA/JT fight wasn't all that great either until the KO. AA fought as negatively as Dirrell did... he stayed in his shell and didn't open up except a few times.

because of the robbery, the super six is actually the super sux.

                let's be real

It seems to me that ppl are saying that Froch deserved the win based on what Dirrell didn't do, rather than what Froach did, which of course was nothing. Newsflash ppl, boxing doesn't work like that (well, its not supposed to). the decision on saturday was and is whats wrong with boxing. sure the fight was a bit drab at times, but you cant blame Dirrell for that. he made Froch fight his fight, and Froch couldn't keep up plain and simple. thats why Froch resorted to using dirty tactics. not only did dirrell land more shots, but he also landed more power shots and had Froch in trbl more. hey, i had Dirrelll winning the fight handily, but that's just me. what more can i say?

This writer is an idiot. Although not FOTY candidates, both fights were full of drama, and the Super Six tournament is off to a fantastic start. Froch Dirrel was no worse than De La Hoya Mayweather and the Abraham KO has even the most casual fans talking. What the hell is negative boxing supposed to mean anyway? What a moron

Froch would have lost to Hopkins, Eubank, Jones Jr, Benn, Collins, Kessler, Prime-Lacy, Prime-Miranda, Prime-Reid, Prime-Sheika... Froch is not that good.
