Too bad for the guy--it can happen to any boxer. Not just anyone wants to be a fighter for this reason.

It has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the fighters. It's a combination of cultural factors and a flagrant lack of preparedness to deal with emergencies by the Commission.

The fact that we saw Ginjiro Shigeoka almost die in the ring because of inadequate response to a serious brain injury, and then they let him back into the ring just a few months later against the same fighter and it happened AGAIN should tell you all you need to know. And, AGAIN, they were woefully unprepared. They were slow in getting him medical attention, they didn't have the oxygen mask ready, they didn't have a stretcher ready nor any protocols as to what to actually do with the fighter when his condition began to worsen. They were literally trying to pass his limp body over the ropes, for god's sake.
