Maybe Murtazaliev didn't have promoters lining up for him? I'm not sure when his deal with Duva began or how long it'll last, but he shouldn't expect a dramatic increase in his profile while under Duva. Activity is key, and I don't think she can guarantee him that. I do like the Lubin match-up and it should've already happened. The fact it's taking so long is down to both fighters not having major promotional backing. I almost expect the purse bid to be so small that the fight may not get done. I genuinely hope that doesn't happen, but it's a possibility. Pro-Box is the only logical place for this fight to headline.

That is true but also true is that Ortiz was offered a fight with Murtazaliev and so was Ennis and both turned it down more than once. Why? Because Murtazaliev is a difficult outing. Bohachuck wanted a rematch but Ortiz team shot that down quick because Bohachusk was a very difficult outing for Vigil. Benavidez is a ***n lunatic willing to fight anyone because he believes he's that good.....and so far, I haven't seen anything that says he's not. Short of a massive payday nobody is lining up to fight Benavidez.
My point is not that these guys are ducking but to imply that nobody in boxing respects Eastern European fighters is patently untrue. Euro fighters are always dangerous, they're tough, well schooled and they come to fight to win.
To be fair, there is always more to the story.
Kelly and Xander are the weakest in the division and Bob is too good a promoter to throw Xander in with Murtazaliev. That said, I believe Xander's movement will give the Eastern Euro problems. Kelly's team know he's limited so they're looking for a money fight to cash out. Ortiz's team are looking for a big, big money fight with Fundora and less interested in Murtazaliev. Ennis first wants a fight to get his feet wet in a new weight class and Ramos (no slouch) is on his short list. IMO, Benavidez is a generational talent and similarly I believe Ennis will prove to be a special talent too.
Lastly there is Bivol and he kind of confuses me because turned down Benavidez for a big money trilogy and then stalled the fight until Beterbiev moved on. Not sure what that's all about.

Kathey Duva built Stevenson from nothing into the first incarnation of Deontay Wilder fighting winnable fights that made him look invincible. Kathy took a one dimensional guy and kept him on top, making him millions for years. The first time Stevenson stepped into a 50/50 elite fighter with footwork he lost. Stevenson was never the fighter Kathy built him up to be but that's her job as a promoter.
Next, there is Kovalev, the crusher fought everyone and won convincingly but he was always undisciplined and liked to drink and party. The Crusher ran into a generational fighter moving up and got beat by a more determined, far more disciplined fighter. Lastly, Kathy got Kovelev a fight with Canelo for a mountain of money and the fight was Kovelev's to win but he was caught up in legal troubles, didn't want to be there and didn't train for shyt. The Crusher was gone, he was there to cash out and it showed.
In the end, Kathy did well for both guys. Kathy had the world believing they were invincible and made them both millionaires in weight classes with better talent that never did half as well.Comment

Easy fix, Bahachcuk vs Murtazaliev. What is the excuse?

stevenson was with haymon, not duva. and yes stevenson fought a ton of bums like wilder but he did beat legit guys like dawson(underdog), bellew, fonfara, and he had a draw with jack which wasnt a terrible robbery although some had jack winning. obviously he didnt do the 1 fight that mattered which was kovalev so you can make the case that not much he did mattered, kind of a canelo-benavidez thing. beating the 2nd tier guys doenst mean much when you are scared of the best

kovalev clearly won the first ward fight, and the 2nd was a laughable cheat fest. . more determined to cheat and rob him sure. ward was "too big to fail" so they made sure he won. dont think you can say kovalev was exposed in any way because of that fight. i would say he proved he was legit by beating ward pretty easily in the first fight, then fighting him close even when ward when into full wrestling and kitchen sink cheat mode in the 2nd before being stopped by golota low blows. also kovalev offered beterbiev a fight and beterbeiv turned it down although beterbiev has proven himself to be a top guy at least on the kovalev level, he had his chance. bivol is probably better than kovalev and stevenson but arrived right as both were falling off.
no fighter is invincible. if anyone believes that they are just the type of sucker promoters love. stevenson and kovalev were both legit top guys with a bunch of good wins. it wasnt like they were wilder or tank with dubious resumes who lost when they stepped up. they both lost and fell off as they aged and as new blood entered the division. story old as time. happens to everyone unless they try to artificially extend their careers floyd, canelo style with massive cherry picking. there wasnt better talent in that 5 year stretch in the division(or even below as we saw with ward) newer and fresher talent arrived and pushed them out as they agedLast edited by daggum; 08-13-2025, 03:07 PM.Comment
