As a kid I absolutely loved Mathew Saad and could not forgive Qawi and his menacing attack on Mathew. But I am so glad Mathew was finally reunited with his family. Mathew stole my heart like no other fighter has ever done, or ever will. Not even close.

A two time world champion, he gave Holyfield a helluva fight in their first bout.

He was like a smaller Joe Frazier, I guess one could say. Big heart.

We're all going to leave this life, hopefully we have done some good while here.

Evander became one of my favorite fighters as a young fan in the 90s, years after the Qawi fight. I didn't see that fight until 20 years after the fact on ESPN Classic and then again in the early days of YouTube. That was one of the first fights I looked up; what a feeling that was to be able to pull up all these fights. Definitely one of the best he fights I've seen, and one that can be watched multiple times. Looking at the comments, he made a impact on people. RIP champ

This makes me extremely sad. I always hoped to meet this man one day. One of my all time favorite boxers. Student of Quenzell McCall and the late great Wesley Mouzon, "The Chocolate Blur". With Qawi's passing, a whole lot of old school boxing knowledge is gone with him. One of the best to ever put on gloves, rest in peace Champ. Gone but never forgotten. I have all this man's films, and as a teenager I used to rewind his fights over and over and study his movements in the mirror. He taught me you can out jab a taller opponent if your timing is good enough. He used a busy jab up and down, and it was a hard jab. His chin stayed behind his shoulder. He rarely took more than one step back and had both tremendous defense and offense. This is a huge loss for the boxing world
