  • WBA orders Pulev-Hunter again

The World Boxing Association (WBA) has ordered a purse bid for a heavyweight title fight between Kubrat Pulev and Michael Hunter. This comes after failed negotiations between the two camps for a title defense of Pulev's "regular" WBA title. The purse bid was won by Don King Promotions with a bid of $1.1 million. The fight is tentatively scheduled for August 23rd.

If we are lucky we might see Usyk vs Pulev in a unification

The WBA are a joke. This was "ordered" ages ago and was supposed to occur around the same time as Wardley - Huni with the winners to face. I can only assume they're terrified of stripping Pulev in case they get sued again.

The lineage of the WBA regular title really is something to behold. It might be the worst we’ve ever seen in the sport. We’ve had 44 year old Pulev, Trevor Bryan, Manuel Charr, Lucas Browne, 300+ lbs Chagaev. Even some of the contenders that have been in line for it too, we’ve had Chris Lovejoy highly ranked, Fres Oquendo being owed a title shot for years despite being 50, Hasim Rahman when he could barely walk to the ring, BJ Flores, Bermane Stiverne who looked like he hadn’t been inside a gym in years. It’s hilarious tbh.

The farce should have ended after Usyk - Dubois 1 but the WBA obviously thought the reputational cost of reinstating Charr was less than the financial cost to settle the court case.

What I don't understand is why they accommodated Charr - Pulev by putting Pulev back in the rankings. The deal involved Charr fighting two mandatories from the ranked contenders.

Or at least order Pulev - Wardley instead. Let Wardley put him to sleep.

Yeah it’s a complete farce. They’ve ridiculously created an WBA interim title too now. At least Wardley is somewhat credible.
