    Question about PACQUIAO's weight....

For the past couple of years, Manny Pacquiao has been coming into the ring on fight night at about 143-145 pounds.

For the Delahoya fight, he was 148 on fight night...but weighed in at 142. The weight limit for the fight was 147.

My question: why did Manny dry out on fight week? Why did he bother to put in extra work (or skip meal/fluids) to weigh in at such a low weight if he could just weigh in at 146/147?

Is there an advantage to doing it that way? More speed? Or just habit/routine after going through the process in so many previous fights?

Because it is rare for a fighter to fight at his walk around weight.

Besides, if you can make the weight during weigh-in, there's no reason to complain.

This has in no way offered any insight.

      1) "walking around weight" is not your weigh-in weight or your fight-night weight. How is this related?

      2) The question was "why". You respond about what is "rare".

Because fighters don't do much exercise between weigh in and the fight. They also eat a lot for energy. Before the weigh in he will still be running, doing pad sessions etc... burning off energy and mass.

Pacquaio really isn't a WW at all. I'm amazed that he in the favourite over Cotto. He's a brave little guy for sure.

Maybe he didn't really dry out on fight week and that just his normal training weight. Do we know how much he weighed during training? Maybe he hadn't filled out his body yet for the ww/jww class at that time.

Or maybe it was intentional to keep him from ballooning too much and losing his edge in speed.

Fighters don't do much exercise on fight week either. Well, not the ones who have no problem making weight.

            For example:

When Ricky fights at 140, he weighs in at 140. When he fights at 147, he weighs in at 145-147.

He relieves himself of the burden of losing unneeded pounds.

Manny weighted 130 lbs one month before his defense of his 112 crown against megdoen singsurat. During the weigh in he was 4 lbs overweight. After that debacle he never committed the same mistake again.

In short, I don't know what the answer to your question is.
