The WBO will do this with fighters that have won their belt in a lower weight class. Bob Arum probably helped them institute this rule as many Top Rank fighters have vacated their WBO title in one weight class and immediately gotten a title shot upon moving up in weight.

Undisputed super middle weigh champ vs an undefeated fighter, who carved his name in history as being undisputed in two different weight divisions. What legends are made of. Terence Crawford managed to become undisputed in 2 different weight divisions in the 4 BELT era. And now he's seeking a THIRD undisputed title. I'm not hating on the fight, and I plan to buy it too! However, they don't need to rank Crawford at 168, when he has NEVER fought at 168! Just let the fight go on, and let it be what it is....A Super Middleweight fighting a Super Welterweight! Don't try to make it something it's not!
