  • Put your trainers hat on. What did/does Tszyu do wrong?

Tim Tszyu and his team learned nothing since the 1st Fundora fight, and it showed. Tims team is clueless. They had the same lack of a game plan against a tall fighter as the first time. Yet had 18 months to work something out. Tim stood bolt upright as usual, trying to fight tall against a taller fighter with something like 8 inches on him. Everyone knows you dont try and fight tall against a tall fighter.

Fundora poses a problem many fighters face. "He is tall. How do i reach him?" Tall fighters pose a problem because of their reach. The jab and cross come at you from a distance and its very hard to counter because you arent close enough. Tim spent so much energy trying to close that gap by going through Fundoras punches without getting hit.. Boy, did that not work!

The first thing Tszyu should have done was shut down Fundoras jab. You do that by going to his body on that side. Step outside his southpaw jab and rip to the liver. Being a southpaw fundora leads with his right. Same side as his liver. He is going to be more cautious throwing jabs if he is getting attacked on his liver. So you shut down his jab, then you can get closer.

Fundora was throwing a lot of left hand crosses, his power punches. So now you have shut down his right jab a bit you can get closer and work to the body both sides. His left hand power punches come off his jab. He also gets cautious throwing his left cross as he is getting hit to the body. You then have shut his offence down a bit and hes dropped his hands to protect his body. You are also closer to Fundora as he isnt reaching out with his punches as much as he is getting hit on the body. As he drops his hands you throw to the body then head.

Dont try and fight tall. Fight short, make the tall fighter bend to punch down. Punching down shortens his reach. While fighting from a crouch of sdorts you have more weight on your legs ready to spring, stand on punches harder.

Tim didnt try and draw punches and counter. Draw left hands and get underneath. That is half the problem solved. Bawk, slip, counter.

Tim is a one dimensional pressure fighter. He has a terrible sense of distance. He needs to go back to the gym, get a real trainer than knows boxing, and learn to fight with different strategies. Because as of right now, he only knows one way. And it aint working!

Working...
