Comments Thread For: Forget Tom and Jerry, the art of not getting hit must remain
?Move. Punch. Move. - those are the three words I heard over and over during my time studying the art of boxing," recalls BoxingScene's Tom Ivers.

Boxing’s biggest mistake is the lack of a single independent NON PROFIT governing body. That left if vulnerable to the extent that a rich sheik can come along and effectively buy boxing and dream up whatever rules that one person wants and fundamentally change the nature of the sport.
Boxing has been quite happy to operate in a corrupt manner where money talks loudest and now its come back to bite them.
Love the fights Turki has put on so far. That bit is refreshing. Absolutely hate the idea of a Dana White run boxing super league. Hate one person deciding that 18ft rings are now de facto.
Wonder how long it’ll be before some pillock uses the word ‘runner’ in these comments. Wasn’t it Mark Twain who said ‘It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt’?
Move punch move is perfectly fine but if you're literally just running and throwing scared jabs from a distance that don't land or hit the gloves then yeah that's a problem

If they don’t land or hit the gloves they don’t score and you loose anyway. Not what the article is about. It’s about not getting hit.

Yeah they do. Plenty of boxers hit gloves and it counts as a punch landed. You really think 20+ or 100+ punches per round all land?
Not getting hit is fine so long as you hit that's my point.
This new shlt where the other guy can run away and not land anything clean but still win is bullshlt. Then it lands on the other guy with "well why didnt he cut off the ring".
Need to not blurry the lines of a runner and a boxer who hits and moves well. I'm against the type of performance Haney put on vs Jose Ramirez, but I'm all for power boxing if you want to call it that. Somewhat a Shane Mosley. He'll hit, move, setup his power shots and try to avoid punches in return if possible, even if he wasn't the greatest at it. Or more recent, let's say Brian Norman Jr. There are plenty of entertaining boxer punchers, but I think the combination of someone that lacks power and then moves a lot is the problem.
So perhaps the answer is to remove all pillow punchers from the sport

Indeed. What Scull did against Canelo was that. Defensive fighters have a place and not everyone likes them but the reality and the rules are that if they land more than you you still loose.
I agree with the sentiment of the article. A lot of people didn’t enjoy watching Mayweather in the tail part of his career as he was more defensively minded but at least he had a respectable offence. What Haney and Scull did isn’t that.
I think the days of the runner are officially OVER now that the Saudis are running boxing. After all, that's where the money's at plus Jerry's like Shakur usually sell the least number of PPVs. Although Mayweather was the exception to the rule due to his charisma and brash personality, most runner's lack the ability to sell fights in addition to their boring fighting style which is probably why they'll go extinct.

A lot of truth here.
If you in the fight game now, a little more punching and a lot less sweet science should be your focus if you looking for your next big check
