Oh yeah I've seen Andre Ward fight out of the shoulder roll stance and so does Kevin Johnson.

I like the way the peek-a-boo defense looks, don't really care for the shoulder roll

shoulder roll is much easier for countering although the high tight guard (or peek-a-boo as you call it) is good for blocking every punch it does mean that sometimes the fighter is so concerned with defense that he misses his own chances to land punches.

classic example - clottey vs cotto.

Don't think its called a peek a boo guard since Mike tyson has a peek a boo guard.Wright, quartey have just a very high guard.

Exactly. Holding your hands up high ≠ peek-a-boo. Patterson is the only fighter the OP listed who actually used the peek-a-boo style.

you need good reflexes to do the shoulder roll... not just any euro bum can do it.

depends really, shoulder roll is way more risky and you have to have perfect reactions to do it, but when you counter off it, its damm good. high guard or peek-a-boo as its known also has its pluses and your less likely to get caught clean, but your still taking damage and if your fighting someone who can keep hitting you, you arnt going to be able to counter them back, also its pretty hard to counter with decent power from a peek-a-boo unless you bob and weave as mich as tyson.
