Vasiliy Jirov Dropped in One, Gets Up To Win

Former world cruiserweight champion Vasiliy "The Tiger" Jirov (38-3-1, 32 KOs) made a successful return to the ring Saturday night against hard-punching spoiler Jonathan Williams... but, as is always the case with Jirov, not without a few moments of suspense. [details]

I saw a clip on youtube of Flores dropping Jirov in sparring. I don't think he has much punch resistance left.

Nothin goin on at CW that I know of. Adamek's gone, so the division is open. Jirov may get a belt, but that's it. He can't take serious abuse no more imo. He never was right after the Toney fight.

I wish him the best but being dropped in 1 doesn't make you confident about him taking a big shot from a world class fighter. He always will have his power to bail him out. I could see him beating the skilled but featherfisted Cunningham.

I agree with you 100%. Jirov's style left him always open to heavy retaliation, and guys who fight like he does, eventually wear out, much sooner than boxers, who show defensive skills.

I also agree with you about the Toney effect. I actually thought Jirov had retired, and was pleased about it.

His only way of prolonging his career is to make sure that his opponents are not heavy or punishing punchers.
