160 had options. 168 only has a brick wall named Canelo. Wonder what their plan is.

Tbf what you've described here is not ducking but as you said, a choice. Ducking is proven over time, not by a single instance of choosing to fight one guy over another at one particular given moment.
Do we have any info on the maths? It could be as simple as Janibek's team couldn't come up with enough money for professional prizefighter Sheeraz.Comment

Yeah, for as talented as Janibek, his career hasn’t lived up to expectations. He seems to be aiming for a Canelo fight, which won’t happen in a month of Sundays, when he should be seeking out fights against Lara and Adames. Janibek can rule the roost at 160 for years to come but he needs to stay active and he needs to take whatever fights he can to boost his profile.Comment

Yeah, but there was a time-frame of a little over a year where Sheeraz could’ve made that fight and he couldn’t find his pen. It’s not egregious or anything, but it is annoying that Sheeraz never made that fight while it was there since it would have injected a bit of life into 160. I don’t see Sheeraz making a lot of noise at 168 personally and think they’ll continue to match him pragmatically, though I do think Berlanga has a decent chance at the upset.

Sheeraz pulled out of the purse bid to face Janibek, and three months later faced Adames. We've definitely witnessed worse examples of ducking. He didn't perform well vs. Adames, and moved up. Sheeraz avoiding Janibek isn't the reason why MW is in its current state. It's because the titlists aren't fighting each other.Yeah, but there was a time-frame of a little over a year where Sheeraz could’ve made that fight and he couldn’t find his pen. I'm not sure if Berlanga winning would be considered an upset. Sheeraz obviously has the dimensions for SMW, but we don't know how he'll perform against a natural SMW. Berlanga is technically limited, but he's probably capable of hurting Sheeraz. Not only will it be a new weight for Sheeraz, but he's also trying out a new trainer.
