By Scott Gilfoid: It looks as if World Boxing Council super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-0, 20 KO’s) needs to have his head checked out after beating American Andre Dirrell (18-1, 13 KO’s) by a 12 round split decision tonight at the Trent FM Arena, Nottingham. Froch, 32, who looked positively awful and appeared to lose the fight by at least eight rounds on my scorecard, had this to say about the fight: “I definitely felt like I won from round 1 through round 12. I’m not 100% satisfied because I like to feel like I won the fight and I feel like I could go in there another 12 rounds and still beat Dirrell.”
Say what, Froch? You think you won all 12 rounds of the fight? Wow! I hope they take Froch to the nearest hospital and have his head thoroughly checked out to make sure nothing was knocked loose up there. I know Froch has always been kind of a confident person, maybe too confident when judging his own talent if you ask me. But for him to say that he felt that he won all 12 rounds, it leaves me with the impression that Dirrell beat him even worse than I originally thought. Froch is really dreaming.
He needs to sit down, take it easy, have a beer and put his glasses on and watch the fight without the TV sound on. If he listens to the Nottingham fans going nutty after every punch that he misses, Froch might get a wrong impression and think he’s doing better than he actually was. We want Froch to face reality here and he won’t get a good a look at the fight if he’s listening to his home crowd cheering him on for every punch he throws.
Froch took a beating in the fight, especially in the later rounds when he was staggered twice by Dirrell. Out of frustration, Froch started fouling like no tomorrow, body slamming Dirrell, punching him in the back of the head and other related nastiness. Needless to say, it didn’t leave Froch looking good for those who saw the Super Six fight around the world. It never looks good when a fighter has to resort to fouling when they’re getting out-boxed.
I really hope that Froch doesn’t think he impressed the American audience – or even the British public – with his performance. Froch didn’t look good, not on defense or offense. Froch especially looked horrid on defense as he was tagged with every punch that Dirrell had a desire to throw. Granted, Dirrell obviously moved a little too much, but he was out-boxing Froch like a replica of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Muhammad Ali.
It was beautiful boxing, and almost a perfect performance. If you could take away the clinching and the movement late in the fight – a factor that cost Dirrell when he was docked a point for holding too much late in the bout – Dirrell would have been sensational. As it was, he still won by at least eight rounds.
So Froch thinks he could have gone another 12 rounds and still beaten Dirrell. I hate to break this to Froch, but he was getting dominated in the final rounds and was hurt twice in the last couple of rounds. Had the fight gone another three rounds, Froch would have likely been taken out. He sure wasn’t going to win those rounds. Dirrell was serving him up at the end.
That is so sad that Froch thinks that he could have gone 12 more rounds. Yeah, dude, you could have gone more rounds but you would have lost all of them, so what’s the point? You got your gift decision so you need to be happy about it and not get a little too carried away with making more out of it then what it was. It sounds like a serious case of delusions of grandeur. Froch stunk up the joint with his fouling and his inability to get out of the way of Dirrell’s shots. No hand speed, no defense and movement like an old plow horse. That was some god awful boxing from Froch. He might as well been in an MMA fight because the way he was fighting with his body slams and other fouls, he would been perfect for UFC.

Please, you must see that its unfair. When Calzaghe beat Hopkins, you were saying the same thing as now. Why can't you be honest and give Euros some credit?!
