Did anyone gain respect for Dirrell?

I know a fair bit of people were expecting him to be KO'ed. But did anyone gain respect for him or even become a fan? I know he didn't fight like Gatti in there (lol), but he showed he can box with Froch. Even if you didn't think he won (which quite a few including myself felt he should have) you have to admit it was a real close fight.

He lost respect from me. He repeatedly backed himself into a corner while Froch was coming forward with his hands down. If he had shown some backbone and fought the way he did the last 2 rounds of the fight the entire fight....i think he probably would have stopped Froch.

I got some props for Dirrell...quick..athletic..

his racehorse style defense is gonna catch alot of hate.

but I don't really see what else he could have done, he doesn't really know any other kind of defense, he's just a kid. if he had let Froch fight the kind of fight he wanted to, Froch would make short work of Dirrell.

But considering most were thinking he was going to be dominated, and he wasn't really. Shouldn't that gain him any respect.

Or possibly the best answer is that people's opinions stayed the same about Dirrell and they lost respect for Froch. Or both.

If there will be a rematch, I think Dirrell will definitely step it up. He now knows how easy it was to put combos together on Froch. I expect Dirrell to open up much sooner than tonight.

No, he lost respect from me. I was keeping my eye on him the whole time and gritting my teeth out of frustration because of what he was doing. He lost this fight because of his ******ity.

He made me want to turn the tv off, i'm going to go re-watch his Olympic fight vs Gennady Golovkin so i can satisfy my need to witness him get hit in the face over and over again while having his dreams shattered.

Well i think theres no question that Dirrel has talent...and IMO he won that fight by 3-4 rounds...but hes not gonna win titles by what he was doing early on...that holding and running wont score you much favor with judges....if he fought like he did in the 2nd half but in the 1st half ...he might of stopped Froch

The better question obviously is "Did you lose respect for Froch?"

                    I'm confused about him.

On one hand, he has incredible physical attributes,

on the other hand, he approaches the game like a *****.

I wasn't fond of all the holding because of his lack of an inside game. That is clearly his plan. Keep it long range and as soon as it gets close, tie up.

                    That is not defense.

That is taking away from the fight.

I could see why Froch was frustrated and resorting to the roughhousing. I think he should have got a point taken away just as much as Andres was deserved.

It was a fight and Dirrell was turning it into a hugfest, then crying like Kermit Cintron when Carl would hit him anyways.

Develop an inside fight Dirrell and you won't have to act like a girl when it gets close.
