is it customary to score close rounds to the reigning champion?

Do you do it? What do you base it on?

For example the first few rounds of the Froch fight were so inactive, do you score em even? give the champ the benefit since his opponent is there to earn/take the belt?

Honestly apart from the 11th which Dirrel clearly won i thought the other rounds could have gone either way. Not sure its customary, but when the challenger is spoiling and running im pretty sure those close rounds start becoming the champion/hometown guys rounds..

I do this sometimes.. if a round is really really close, it goes to the champ.
why? because the challenger has to earn the belt if he wants it.. the champ gets the benefit of the doubt. That's only when I don't see a clear winner for a round though and it's not always. A round could be close but if the challenger edges it out, then no reason why you should give it to the champ.

No. If I can't choose a winner I make it an even round.

So if fighter A landed one clean punch
and fighter B landed 1 glancing punch and threw 50 more shots
then it should be 10-9 for fighter A

                  you analogy is flawed...

dirrell stunk out the joint, but he landed more punches and his punchers were cleaner...

                  it's more like this...

if fighter A lands more clean punches than fighter B then it should be a 10-9 for fighter A.
