If his ultimate goal is to win respect from American fans (I'm not sure that it is, but I'm just saying), he went backward tonight. First of all, if he was really as good as he thinks he is; he should have beaten Dirrell easily. He didn't. In fact, he was the only one to get hurt in the fight.
Second, American fans like people who talk trash, but only if they're funny when they do it. Froch was disrespectful. He acted as though he dominated what was clearly a competitive fight.
Third, Froch fouled A LOT (and his fouls looked to be on purpose) and didn't get a point deducted. Then when a point was deducted it was deducted from Dirrell. That just looks fishy to American fans.
So, cong**** to Froch. He fought hard and retained his title. He gained points and is likely to make the single elimination round now. But with the way he behaved today I think he secured the role as the bad guy who everyone outside of England wants to see lose.
Abraham, on the other hand, probably won A LOT of American fans today because of his more impressive performance and collegial celebration of it. I know Abraham wants to win American fans and he definitely did.
