There's obviously a whole lot of knee-jerk threads on the front page with people righteously indignant for their guy one way or the other, but there's not a lot of meaningful discussion... who else thinks a fight like this was just a bit too much, too fast for Dirrell? I know at some point a guy has to step up in a "make or break" sort of moment, but going to another guys city, to fight a champion, in the first part of this tournament, when you're relatively untested and its the biggest fight of your career so far... is it any wonder he seemed so nervous, and reflected it early in the ring? Regardless of the flak he's taking, I don't think there's a single person on this board who could say they wouldn't be at all nervous in the same situation.
It felt to me at least that he was his own worst enemy in this fight, what with the constant backing up and holding without the work rate to offset it; it took him a long time to get settled, but if nothing else round 11 showed this guy has a whole lot of talent, and hopefully this fight will go a long way towards calming him for future similar fights so he can get to work and look better earlier. I think that's what would happen in a future rematch with Froch, he'll have realised how easily he can get off first with his handspeed and give Froch hell as he uses that footwork and evasion to make Froch look bad in return.
Also I believe with their respective losses today, Taylor and Dirrell will be fighting it out soon right? provided Taylor stays in the tournament which there has been speculation about; if this fight goes ahead, based on their respective performances today, how do you guys see this one playing out?
