What I took from all this, is the realization how incredible unprofessional Davis actually is.

Takes his eye of the opponent, drops his hands and starts talking to the ref mid-fight. He has done this in multiple fights.
Thinks he can just stop fighting and walk to his corner to wipe his face and than continue without a problem.
I don't believe there is a conscious 'I can get away with it'. He is behaving like it is a spar..
He rationalizes it afterwards but I think it could be involuntary behavior when he gets anxious.
He was behaving very erratic, also in his corner.
Didn't he say he started talking to back to someone in the audience in the Rolly fight to help him relax?

You nailed it. Tank is mentally all over the shop he reacted to something strange as he would sparing it was an automatic response, Davis is getting lost in all the stardom and hype it takes a certain type to handle it all and stay focused.

In regards to something being in his eyes… when he goes to the corner they barely wipe his face… towel just grazes over his face … definitely couldnt clean out his eyes … whole thing is so odd

It's all tremendous storytelling. Boxing is getting up there with the WWF Attitude Era. It's marvellous stuff. Dubois knocked Usyk out for 5 minutes, yet the fight still continued. We have His Excellency hovering scorecards like the Man in the Hat from Khan vs Peterson, Eubank landing an egg to the jaw of Benn, Eddie Hearn ditching Canelo for the man who beat him, Bivol. Fury letting Usyk beat him twice for the good of the Ukraine. Wilder being cloned so he could lose to Parker, as part of Parker's great comeback storyline, and to Zhang, for the novelty of an old, Chinese Giant being a contender and part of Parker's winning run also.

Tank did this and the draw for a good storyline. He has been out of the fold for a while so needs something to get people talking and to get trackrunner Stevenson in the ring. The recent Bakole storyline, where he can turn up, grab the cash, lose, but all the excuses are already there so he is still the Boogeyman. Moses Itauma's storyline as a Next Gen Man version of Mike Tyson. Jake Paul's storyline as the Face of Boxing. It's all part of the storyline people. Just enjoy the ride. Nash out - His Most Majestic Majesty
