The reason why Johnson was condemned while Ryan got a slap on the wrist is becaud boxing is sort of a niche sport nowadays compared to the Olympics, which is global and appeals to a much wider, mainstream audience.

Simply put, the American casuals, fanboys, normies, (especially women, who are mothers, don't want to put their sons lives at risk to such a brutal sport) don't really care about it anymore.

That's why PEDs is rampant and not taken seriously in boxing. And also because of that, there's too much life changing money to be made to not be on steroids.

Lots of people here have selective outrage. How much has Canelo earned since he failed? Better yet, how much has fury himself earned since failing, lying, doing a cover up and then using mental health as an excuse to serve his ban in silence? As long as people are selective about their outrage this will continue. Reynoso has had more fighters fail ped tests than any trainer in history. Memo Heredia is still floating out there working with fighters. Conte who has ties to a testing body is out there working with boxers. I mean let’s just call it what it is, “money talks.” Low popularity fighters that get caught have their careers destroyed while folks look the other way and make excuses when more popular fighters get a pass. We knew boxing didn’t give a flying fuggggg about doping the minute they let Floyd somehow get a retroactive approval for an iv he used before asking for the approval and getting it.

This has been beaten to death, but yeah, a 1 year suspension doesn't mean **** in boxing these days. Crawford beat Spence Jr. and took a year off on his own free will. The amount of money these fighters make give them the privilege to go a year without needing to fight to stay wealthy. It's like a forced vacation for them.

The penalty has to be so severe that even the fighters have to question their nutritionist and everyone around them before they consume/take anything.

Check out the excellent documentary “Bigger Faster Stronger,” which is all about PEDs. There is a segment where they cover Johnson and Lewis. Whether you believe the filmmakers or not, PEDs are rampant in sports. Many of your favorite athletes have likely used, or are still using, chemical assistance. It’s the world we’re living in.

Good article. I’ve been looking at a LOT of videos and information on steroids these days. It’s amazing how, for decades, practically every bodybuilder you ever heard of denied, or kept silent about, their steroid use. Now there are TONs talking about it openly. But I agree with the writer: non-combat sports are one thing; sports where a person could be killed or seriously injured is another. Our society is crumbling on all fronts. It’s mind boggling that a fighter should essentially get a free pass when he’s caught using PEDs.
