Comments Thread For: From 30-pound computers to keypads: CompuBox turns 40

A little under 40 years ago today, Bob Canobbio and Logan Hobson lugged a mammoth early version of a personal computer to Reno, Nevada and set themselves up ringside in the Lawlor Events Center for Livingstone Bramble's rematch with Ray Mancini.

The compubox operators are just as corrupt as the judges. They always have the hometown and promotional fighter way ahead on landed punches when everyone at home can clearly see it's a nip and tuck type fight.

It's time for a new system. Maybe AI is the solution.

      Good read thanks ...................

Think they said they sold the company and the rights i guess ? Hope they got some decent money really like that they no longer had to paint for a living not that there is anything wrong with that....... It is a way to measure the fight not an exact science we all know that good tool keeps you aware of some things but not the amount of power in a power punch or the set up or the...........

compubox is garbage and essentially real-time propaganda. its not accurate, at all. numerous times ive gone back and actually counted what punches landed and what punches didnt and they have been off by a factor of 500% or more. thats crazy terrible. i wont even mention the fight or fighters but in a round it said fighter A landed 11 power punches when in reality i found 1 that partially landed. good try???

this is not an outlier either. any fight ive analyzed and actually studied in depth ive found the numbers wrong by huge margins. they count punches that hit nothing but air, they count punches that dont land on scoring areas, they count punches that are blocked, they count push offs, backhands, touches, taps etc...as punches when the rules clearly state what is and what isnt a punch and what areas are scoring areas and arent. if you want accurate punch stats it has to be done after the fact since its impossible to do it live.

you can even see in real time them ef-fing up royally because occasionally they will have the running compubox stats down below and a guy will miss a punch and miss clearly and his punches landed will go from 44 to 45 for example without anything landing. just guessing? whats the point? to throw people down a narrative that isnt really happening because then the commentators start using them as if they are fact when they are anything but.

Loma vs Lopez being the most clear example of what you are saying.
