Why is Cotto's technique underrated around here?

I just saw a thread where a poster laughed at the suggestion that Cotto had decent technique.

I think Cotto looks like a plodder, but his timing, the way he cuts off the ring and his leverage when he throws punches is incredible. The holes he finds in the opponents defense when he throws combos is pretty good.

He's beaten fighters with supposedly better boxing skills in Mosley and Judah and has only lost was to a fighter who, may or may not have loaded gloves.

Not bad for a guy who's too slow and has bad technique.

his defense sucks for the most part and he's a two punch thrower...

Because there are many fans in here that hate coupled with the fact that they believe they know more than they really do.
You don't get to Cotto's status in the boxing world or beat the opponents he did ..by "being slow or limited".

I think Miguel doesn't get much love because he is at the welter weight division. At 140 he could use his size and all those advantages but at WW he is smaller and really hasn't been able to do that. He still has good angles and you could see that through most of the Mosley fight and it was a major key to winning that fight. Against Pacquaio people will see that Miguel does have good technique because of the size advantage he should be able to settle in and go on the offense. Its not easy to push huge welters around like Clottey and Margarito.

Just like this idiot who probably has just watched Cotto last few fights. Cotto has excellent technique he can outbox his opponents when he chooses or outblrawl them. Anyone who watched Cotto versus Mosley and says that Cotto has no technique is an idiot who doesn't know **** about boxing.

yes cotto is terribly limited. he can't cut off the ring or fight off the ropes, he's far too slow, his footwork is awful, he only throws two punches at a time AND he's only a three time world champion in two different weight classes with wins over judah, clottey, quintana, malignaggi and mosley.

                  ****in idiots

Cotto has very good technique, his timing makes up for faster handspeed!!He is an at least average counterpuncher!!His jab is solid,he can switch to southpaw,he has world class punching power & punch delivery!!He can throw in combination & has amazing heart!!The only problems he has is stamina & he doesn't fight well backing up!!If he worked on conditioning & backing up,he'll be the best welterweight of this era!!
