    The sliding doors moment came for Craig Houk, not at the start of his career but right at the end, after 108 fights and 37 losses, when he dropped Hector "Macho" Camacho in the opening round.

      Camacho was from my neighborhood, Lexington Ave in East Harlem. He'd drive by in a gray Corvette with a small pair of gloves and the words "Macho Time", painted near the rear window. For a teenager who totally loved boxing and was always in the gym, seeing Camacho was motivational, to say the least. I was in Coney Island when his son fought Jesse James Leija too
