Comments Thread For: Is BoxRec's WBA deletion a shakedown?

A WBA official believes the ongoing dispute between record-keeping websites BoxRec and Fight Fax which has led to the WBAs title fights being removed from BoxRec to anyone who is not a paid subscriber is a pay-to-play situation

I wish they would ignore ALL alphabet organizations. They're all a joke and a disgrace.

I thought the claim was that the WBA took away Boxrec's access of the WBA's API to try and force people over to FightFax. Weird.

Both sides claims are absurd - scraping all of Boxrec's data to make a copycat website is shady, but it's not illegal - the data is public records. And the WBA suggesting Boxrec is ripping people off is equally ******.

All I know is that if BoxRec doesn't put the WBA results back on their website, people WILL migrate to FightFax when they otherwise wouldn't have. And once people move, it's game over.

There’s database rights in the UK and this would also be a violation of T&Cs (which you agree to when accessing the website). Not sure if that would stand up though, especially internationally - if it was another UK company then they’d likely face action. If they were able to do something about it I think they would’ve by now.

Boxrec is not such Santa and good and fair as lot of people think it to be... Just a couple of examples:
-from some federation they take money per each fight to be published on their database. Money is around $10/fight, but depends a bit from federation. Usually this money is taken only from "small nation" federations.
-Marina Sheppard from boxrec is saying for some promoter's/federations which fight is professional boxing and which fight is not...already in advance, even a quality fights can be rejected!
