He tends to do that, but he also is very tense and has lots of wasted motion and twitches when fighting.
Jermain Taylor gases out because he puts too much commitment towards his punches.

Almost every punch he throws is a power punch. I've noticed this for a very long time, he doesn't have to punch with that sort of commitment; unless he knows he will land. Honestly from watching Taylor vs. Winky, B-Hop, Pavlik, Froch...I've come to that conclusion.Comment

Yeah, Taylor would need insane stamina to keep that up.I agree, he punches like he is trying to punch through them every time. Might work for 6 or so rds but in the later rds, he is too tired to punch when it counts.
He never really sets up punches just tries to beat the other guy down; it might work for some guys but he is not one of them.Comment

I've noticed that also, sort of like Mayorga. Watch Mayorga...there are some similarities. To me though, he shouldn't be throwing with so much power, unless he knows he will land. That right there is killing him in my opinion.Comment

Relax....I agree with you. Just figured it'd be relevant to the thread to let everyone know Jermain Taylor's explanation for it.Almost every punch he throws is a power punch. Nah, he gasses out because he is too tense. He needs to relax in the ring like Toney does and he'd be unstoppable.
All that nervous energy saps your stamina.Comment
